The Mandarin Oriental, one of Hong Kong's more venerable hotels, began offering afternoon tea courses for men this March called "An Afternoon Tea with Gentlemen in Mind."

The hotel has long served afternoon tea at the Clipper Lounge and Cafe Causette, but the new menu is available only at the Captain's Bar and The Chinnery.

The Captain's Bar on the ground floor is known for jazz performances and pouring draft beer into silver tankards, while The Chinnery, on the first floor (or second floor if you're American), has a classy club atmosphere. The interior in both is decorated in warmly soothing color arrangements and furnished with sturdy, upholstered armchairs and leather seats.

Both establishments have two courses on offer. The Gentlemen's Power Snack (HK$238) includes a mini pork burger, a truffle croque monsieur, an English pie and a chocolate cigar, while The Gentlemen's Power Afternoon Tea (HK$328) consists of roast beef, a mini Yorkshire pudding, pork pie, Welsh rarebit (a form of cheese on toast from Wales), a truffle croque monsieur, along with sweets including a brownie, apple pie and a chocolate cigar. Each set includes one draft beer of your choice or, for an additional HK$40, a glass of 12-year Macallan whiskey.

Nicolas Dubort, the hotel's Director of Food and Beverage, said "Whilst ladies and children can enjoy delicate finger sandwiches, cakes, scones with clotted cream and our famed rose petal jam in the elegance of the Clipper Lounge and Cafe Causette, gentlemen can now retreat to the masculine setting of Captain’s Bar or The Chinnery to enjoy a tea experience that we have created especially for them."

The Mandarin Barber, the hotel's barber shop, also sells a special package that includes the Power Afternoon Tea and a 30-minute reflexology (a type of massage also known as zone therapy) for HK$488.

The Gentlemen's Afternoon Tea is served from 2:30 p.m. to 5:00 p.m., available in the Captain's Bar on Monday through Saturday and at The Chinnery on weekdays only.
