The internet is buzzing about a new burger, the Sauteed Beef & Noodle Burger on an otherwise orthodox breakfast menu at an ordinary diner. The burger puts instant ramen, beef grilled in a saute sauce and egg in a bun.

The Green Lounge is a quiet cafe and restaurant offering dishes ranging from pasta to desserts on the backstreets of Sheung Wan's grocery store district. The address is G/F, Xiu Ping Comm Building, 104 Jervois Street, Sheung Wan. The young owner, Joe, said, "We have a lot of regular customers who come to read a book while they slowly drink a cup of coffee, but business was slumping for the restaurant."

So Joe had an idea: the Sauteed Beef & Noodle Burger (HK$45), a combination of freshly boiled and strained instant ramen, beef grilled in a homestyle saute sauce, topped with soft-boiled eggs and stuffed inside a bun. The unusual mix turned into a hot story on the internet soon after going on sale and was subjected to some sharp criticism. "Buns and instant ramen?! That's just nuts!" "Looks gross." So what did Joe do? "I was confident the burger tastes good, so I held a tasting party to erase the stigma."

The Sauteed Beef & Noodle Burger is now the Green Lounge's signature dish. Around 300 are sold a month. Many of its fans are men, as well as women who come in pairs to share the burger. Joe said with a wide smile, "There's a line on weekends. The burger's more popular than you'd think at first glance."

Business hours are from 7:30 a.m. to 6:00 p.m., but the burger is only served before 12:00 p.m. and after 2:00 p.m.
